Harmonically rich and contrapuntally challenging, Canzona has long been considered one of the cornerstones of the wind band repertoire. Its brilliant scoring makes it one of the pieces from the 1950's that defined the American contemporary band sound. This corrected edition will re-introduce this classic to a new generation of musicians. Duration: 5'30".

We played this song at the 2001 CMEA Band Festival, and it sounded great, especially in that big theater. However, it is certainly a style and sound that you need to get used to. It is frantic, confusing and very difficult to play...but well worth it. Go Bells!

First time I played "Canzona" was in the high school band in the early 60s for competiton. I didn't think too much of it as a French Horn player, but after a while it stuck in my mind. It is fast paced and very exciting to listen to as...

well to play it. Thirty-five years later, its medley still haunts my mind. I still remember the "fingerings" for the first 16 bars of it.
