This work is known in three different versions, all of which had been published in the 19th century as part of the Händel-Gesellschaft edition. This new edition gives priority to the setting for alto and obbligato flute (HWV 132c) transmitted in several contemporary copies. van Beethovens in Wien. The G-minor Clarinet Trio was written in 1810 when Ries had relocated back to his native Bonn. The present edition is based on the first edition in parts (Bonn 1811) which is housed in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich. A few obvious errors in this source were corrected for this publication.
