Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download
By Celtic Thunder. By Douglas Menzies MacLean. Arranged by Blake Morgan. Contemporary. Octavo. 16 pages. Blake Morgan #5769113. Published by Blake Morgan (A0.860207).

Item Number: A0.860207

Made popular by British vocal octet VOCES8, this arrangement of Dougie Maclean's heartwarming tune invites a slice of Scotland into the choral rehearsal room. "Caledonia" was the Latin name the Romans used for Scotland, and Dougie's original song has become somewhat of an unofficial anthem for the country. In an arrangement here by Blake Morgan, the textures throughout range from the signature "blended" sound of VOCES8 to a roaring climb through the Scottish highlands before returning to the final refrain in a hymn-like harmonization, bringing us to back to the place we call home. "Let me tell you that I love you, and I think about you all the time; Caledonia, you're calling me, and now I'm going home.".

A nice wistful arrangement with a good helping of some rich, colorful harmony. Not the easiest piece in the world to read straight off the page, but after a few rehearsals it came together wonderfully and was a favorite for both audience and choir. The Voces8 recording is a great...

While the original performance by Dougie MacLean is known for its beauty in simplicity, this arrangement builds on that foundation to include parts that are grand and rich, yet in a way that does the song's homage to Scotland justice. That said, this arrangement also has sections with soft...

and simple harmonies, though if you are looking for a simpler arrangement akin to the original, this may not be for you. This arrangement does require in its peak, 9 voices though, with usually the 9th voice being either an extra bass or tenor, but minimally 8 voices should be present in order to sing most of the song as it is written.Great arrangement overall, and definitely does not disappoint if you are a fan of VOCES8's recording of it.

Extremely disappointing - far too complicated for a lovely yet simple Folk ballad by Dougie MacLean. 15 pages of the score is quite indicative of the complexity. Not suited for a small mixed voice ensemble. We have sung a wide range of music from Folk Ballads in English and in Scots...

Gaelic as well as competitions in both languages. This arrangement is just far too "fussy"
