The pieces in this book have been selected for their musical and technical value. They have been carefully transcribed and edited to stimulate interest in technical development and in general musicianship. They provide supplementary material to be used with any of the standard string methods. By studying the text carefully, and with the teacher's help, the young student can develop a foundation for a fine left- hand technic, and bow arm.

    Difficulty Level:
  • 2005-12-13 00:00:00.0 Supplement for Beginners

This is a supplement for beginners and corresponds to the 2nd book in the Applebaum String Builder series. Text on each page explains what to focus on, and gives tips to do it properly. Most pieces are 3 or 4 lines long. All are played in 1st position. Although some...

are marked as key of A Major, G# is never used (F# and C# are). You get much more practice with b flat and e flat than in the main book. You also learn how to play A sharp with your first finger on the A string. You practice playing with a specified part of the bow, changing dynamics, accents, left-hand pizzicato, martelé bowing, and six-eight time. You place a finger on two strings at once. This book is a great way to get extra practice. Although the Building Technic books overlap some with the String Festival Solos books, it doesn’t hurt to have both. The Solos pieces are longer, but you get fewer of them. The first of those starts easier than this one and doesn’t include flats.
