Alcoholic. Epileptic. Technically challenged. Jimmy Reed nevertheless overcame these roadblocks to become perhaps the most successful R&B/pop cross-over artist of the '50s with songs like “Big Boss Man” and “Bright Lights, Big City.” Musicians, family members, and those whose lives Reed touched offer revealing and heart-wrenching insights into this now-revered bluesman. While Reed's alcoholism was no secret, its effect on his musicianship is less understood. This engaging book tells the real story that until now has not been told.

  • December 27, 2006 A not well written Biogarphy.

This book goes into detail about most of Jimmy's songs. But for a biography it is not well written. I know it is hard to research and get information about a person after they are dead. But this book constantly repeats it's self on every other page about...

Jimmy's alcholism and epilepsey. It really doesn't get into Jimmy's personal life that much. There are voids with his family etc. The keys and chords and progressions mentioned by the author are somewhat questionable. I was glad when I finished the book. It wasn't one I looked forward to picking back up ever evening.. Not like "Blues All Around Me" by David Ritz.. A biography about B.B. King.
