  • September 18, 2012 Bastien Piano for Adults - Book 2

My adult students prefer the Bastien Adult course over others they tried. While studying Book I, they look forward and ask for Book II. The material methodically progresses in an easily understood way that my students enjoy.

Students who begin with Level 1 of this course should definitely continue with this book. Unlike many adult courses, this one develops an understanding of the various keys, going as far as four sharps. The Bastien catalog indicates that Level 2 of the Older Beginner Piano Course should follow this...

book so as to cover the flat keys. In my opinion, one would only need units 6 and 10 of the latter, since the rest of that book duplicates what is in this book. If one uses both levels of this course, plus the two units of the OBPC, the student will have received a very thorough, comprehensive piano curriculum.

While the level was OK, I found the material boring. The snippets from classical themes were so small, it left me frustrated. All in all, I much prefer the Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course. The materials is varied, challenging and most of all, fun.

  • May 23, 2008 A Great Sequel to Book 1

Interpretation is often overlooked in teaching piano technique - not so with this book. The good pattern set in Book 1 continues and is built on to include essential concepts that the experienced player frequently comes across: e.g. Compound Time. Original pieces combine with the well-known in a tasteful...

blend of pieces from Baroque to Modern, embracing Latin, Blues, Pop, Classical and more.
