bastien new traditions

Book A is totally useless. I like Book B. But want one that flows into Level 1.. i agree, use a borrowed one at first, however, its written in and I want new books the first day.

Great. French?

Looks like a grat method book. Question. [...] Also the A is useless. No one should read notes off a staff. If they're too young they cann take Music For Young Children group music classes (singing, games, learning musical symbols).

Nice!

I agree with the other reviewer (Music1234). Books A and B should have been combined into one book. There are just too many pre-reading songs in the Book A, and too much information given to students at one time, if starting with Book B. I had my student borrow my copy of Book A for a few weeks just to cover some basics. Then, we transitioned to Book B. I'm liking this method so far. It's simply laid out, has good music, switches up finger numbers so that students don't start reading just finger numbers, introduces one new note at time, and it has play along audio tracks. The only thing I would change if given the choice, would be having students move around the keys more. Students only play in a small portion of the keyboard for most of the book. I would like it if there were more octave jumps.

Great for Young Beginners

The back of the book recommends teacher using either Primer A or the Primer B book, but I find it best if both were used together simultaneously. If I were the author, I would combine both books as one in future prints. The Primer A book gives the student an opportunity to play a few tunes without the ability to sight read music & the Primer B book slowly introduces each staff note to expand note reading skill steadily. Other method books may move a lot quicker, but I find that many students did not build a strong, solid sight reading foundation which in turned slowed them down as they progress to higher levels. All in all, I can see that this series is mixing a few of their family traditions with some new approaches. I am excited to explore new ways to teach & learn with my new student through this series.
