By Leonard Bernstein, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, The 5 Browns. Arranged by Lisa Ochoco. Score,Set of Parts. 35 pages. Published by Lisa Ochoco (H0.495587-SC001173487).

The musical, West Side Story, is one of the best-known in the world. The Balcony Scene is where Tony and Maria profess their love for one another, and sing the song "Tonight."

This arrangement includes the music for the entire balcony scene and is scored for 4 C Flutes, 2 Altos, Bass, Contrabass, and optional Cello. The Cello part can be substituted by any C instrument in the bass clef range. The optional part is included to help the lower part be heard, or if you don't have a contrabass flute.

In this arrangement, the lower flutes have a large responsibility in playing the melody and playing without the C flutes, so a solid lower flute section is essential. The melody is passed around to every instrument, so no one is left out playing just the accompaniment. The 1st Flute part has a section with 2-part divisi, but it is not completely necessary.

This piece is a great one for your recitals.
