Classical guitar literature is an intricate precision-oriented area of music. What we presently consider "classical" guitar, however, actually delves into various eras including the Classical period. Santorella Publications' classical guitar sheets feature major composers representing the Baroque, Romantic, Classical and Twentieth Century periods. These pieces were not originally composed for guitar, but have been adapted by our skilled arrangers. Franz Schubert's classic edition of Ave Maria is transcribed and arranged by Jerry George. As the potential of the guitar is exploited and the technical expertise of the guitarist is tested, we find that this instrument is on par with any classical instrument in the magnitude of its repertoire and its expressive capability. This Jerry George favorite, written in standard notation and tablature, is performed at countless weddings and holiday concerts from sea to shining sea.

  • November 17, 2013 Good Classical Transcription of Ave Maria

This is a good transcription of the Shubert Ave Maria. Although not every note was written perfectly, Mr. Jerry George did a great job in capturing the essence of the piece. I had to fix a few notes and make some arrangements of my own, but he laid the foundation...

of the transcription. The 5th and 6th strings were tuned to G and D to create a deeper sound. The piece requires a lot of practice to get the feeling of how it should sound.

  • August 31, 2011 A great piece!

Quite an accurate arrangement, which works well in the drop D / G tuning. As mentioned above, some mistakes in the tablature, also I believe one note at the end of the first line of the second page is meant to be a c# as opposed to a#. Some of rhythms...

are also a bit odd, but it's a piece which has room to be interpreted. The weight of the paper is quite unusual, heavier than normal paper, and glossy. Personally I prefer the more conventional print.

  • October 15, 2009 Not a Concert level piece, It's in the key of G

A MOST excellent arrangement on every level is in the key of G Major & was true to the Schubert's Avc Maria. It was very hard, took lots of practice but once learned, it wasn't as hard as first thought. It was a virtuoso arrangement, (don't remember the...

arrager's name). It must be out of print. If anyone has a copy, and knows who arranged it; I wish they'd post it,brcause, I'd pay alot for it!!!!

  • January 18, 2005 all there but not

This is surely the Ave Maria that I know and love, but some of the notes don't quite match up to what you would hear at a wedding. The whole piece is kind of "off" a bit from what you usually hear. Hard to explain. Also, there are a...

few mistakes in the fingerings listed. I would try to look around for another version before settling on this one. One more thing - the tablature is written under the staff; I think it is tacky, but you might not.
