Burns knew it would become a perfect musical backdrop for his Civil War Series Documentary. The song made a huge impression and still is avidly heard and performed after it's debut nearly 30 yrs. ago. Ironically, it is the one song from the Civil War Series that was not from the period but seems like it should have been !
This quartet version starts with solo violin, which is joined in the B section by the plucking cello and viola, and on a 2nd pass the 2nd violin gets the melody as the strings play in tight harmony. Hope you like it.
