The Spanish master Andres Segovia was one of the great masters of the guitar. Self-taught, he took the guitar to new heights of technical mastery in countless concerts and toured almost every country in the world. With his vast number of transcriptions and editions Segovia created an extensive repertoire of classic and modern guitar music, thus laying the foundation for the renaissance of the guitar in the 20th Century. In particular, he succeeded in inspiring a new generation of contemporary guitar composers. This collection contains the finest pieces from his repertoire, with which he has earned his instrument such great respect.

This is a wonderful collection of pieces edited and played by Andres Segovia. It truly contains "The Finest Pieces from His Repertoire" and I am glad to own it. If the pieces were bought by themselves it would cost you easily over $150, so this is a real bargain. I...

have noticed a few typos in some of the pieces, but considering the price point I won't knock off any stars.

This book is a fine addition to the library of any guitarist! I especially like the Sor Mozart variations, opus 9. This is the 1931 edition, which I prefer to the newer edition, issued in 2007, because the newer edition has some confusion of the sequence of the second part...

of the theme. I like the diminished seventh chord to go second. The old typographical error near the end of the first variation (e to g# should be e to b). This error was corrected in 2007, but there is another, more glaring typo that wasn't corrected. In both editions, the first half of the fourth variation ends with g#, which should be low e. The typos are easy enough to spot when reading through the piece, but the statement of theme, as revised in 2007, looks like some editor's preference, not Segovia's. Anyway, this is a nice edition of music edited and recorded over the years by Segovia.

These collectanea of pieces are very difficult to play. Most of them are part of the advanced guitar program in schools, and also played on recitals. If you are looking for a good variety of Segovia's transcriptions and original pieces for classical guitar, this is the one to buy...

. You won't be disappointed. The binding and the paper are excellent. A must have in your library.

There are a nice collection of Segovia transcriptions and original works, played for himself in many of his concerts, as a summary of Schott previously independent publications, asembled now in an only volume. Great!
