Written in Haitian “rara” style, “Alélouya” by Emile Desamours captures the celebratory nature of this musical style in an exuberant anthem proclaiming Christ's resurrection. Sung a cappella in the Haitian Creole dialect with finger snaps and tongue clicks, the joy and ecstasy of Easter overflow. For choirs that may find the Haitian text a bit too challenging, “Alélouya” will also be very effective performed using the English text. This is a truly electric piece!

I am pleased with the fact that the music of Emile Desamours -- who is apersonal friend to me -- is more and more finding its way into the international circle of great choirs. "Aleyoua" is surnamed "Pak Ayisyen" (Haitian Easter). It was conceived as the long-awaited counterpart of "Noèl...

Ayisyen," the Christmas piece every good choir world-wide counts a privilege to include in its repertoire. Emile Desamours composed it in the same "rara" style as "Noèl Ayisyen" after he was asked by an admirer why he did not compose something in the same vein as the Christmas "rara," "Noèl Ayisyen." Emile commissioned himself to write the music. Thus was born the delightful piece of music in question. I hope that it will contribute to give to everyone throughout the world a taste of the richness and the beauty of the Haitian music. Hubermann Larose
