JohannStrauss, Jr. used themes from his operetta, Indigo and the Forty Thieves,to create this wonderful orchestra piece. The mysterious Arabian introduction isfollowed by three Waltzes. Waltz II is the most famous melody.

The pedaland lever harp duet versions are not the same. They differ in the pedal/levermarkings, harmonynotes and which harp is playing the melody note. The dynamics and Waltzsections are clearly marked. The score includes a page of performanceinformation.

The HarpEnsemble wouldperform for 2 hours each evening as guests arrived at the UW-Eau Claire’sannual Viennese Ball in the student center (1998-2016). The invitation wasextended because Eduard Strauss, the youngest Strauss, was a harpist. Heconducted his own orchestra from his harp and toured the United States.
