Percussion Ensemble,Glockenspiel,Chimes,Vibraphone - Intermediate - Digital Download

SKU: S0.168387

Composed by Heitor Villa-Lobos. Arranged by Blaine Locheed. 20th Century,Afro-Brazilian,Children's Music. Score,Set of Parts. 8 pages. Published by Blaine Locheed (S0.168387).

This is a short work for Percussion Ensemble Trio (Glockenspiel, Chimes & Vibraphone). Villa-Lobos wrote a suite of children's songs for piano based upon various types of dolls (A Prole do Bebe - The Baby's Family). This arrangement for percussion ensemble is of the 6th movement of the first suite and is entitled, "A Pobresinha (A Boneca de Trapo) The Rag Doll". Pobresinha can be translated as, "Little Poor One" and the original piano work beautifully conveys the doll's status as poor yet loved by a child.

I have scored this piece using only metal instruments to add a music box quality to Villa-Lobos' original. The Glockenspiel part is the most involved and requires a minimum of 3 mallets but flows better with 4. Next in difficulty is the Vibraphone part which requires 4 mallets but is not at all challenging rhythmically. Finally, the Chime part is very simple and can be played by the "youngest" member of the ensemble. .
