My instructor's goal in getting me this book was to get me to have more dexterity in my fingers. And it will do that to you. The exercises not something you would play in a concert, but they still are somewhat melodic compared to scale books. This also helped...

me a lot with my bowing technique, we go from detache to martele and anything else you want it to be, you have the freedom to use any bowing with out sounding bad. Another nice thing is that unlike a lot of study books these studies can be up to 69 measures in length, so it's not like you play a song and just as you're getting into it the song ends. The only thing I do have an issue with this book is that it does not use any other positions other than first.
