This new edition, in contrast to the array of Bach Cello Suite publications available today, has made use of all the five sources which have come down to us. The basis for this edition is the most reliable of the sources, the manuscript copy in the hand of Anna Magdalena Bach. All variant readings from the four other sources are clearly laid out for performance. Cellists now have the possibility of rendering performances based on just one of the five sources as well as the option of combining the sources in a mixed version.

  • 2017-03-04 15:52:19.0 Very nice, but . . .

This is a lot of nice material and I appreciate that from an historical and learning point of view. But if, like me, you purchased it for the unmarked volume so you have a "clean" copy to put in all your own markings, then there are issues here. It is...

so scholarly that the booklet without markings includes multiple old editions note choices often along the way. I have found it too difficult to jump around all these options while playing. I just bought the "Vandersall" edition that my teacher uses since it does not do this. I'm not sorry I bought it but for me the Vandersall is a better choice for the above purpose.

  • 2008-04-11 00:00:00.0 Bach - the definitive edition of the cello suites

This is the finest edition available for the Bach solo cello suites. This includes facsimile copies of all five early sources, an unedited performing edition, that shows the differences between each source, and a very well done English language critical commentary, including such topics as: source background, the cello in...

Bach's time, articulation, embellishment, vibrato, dynamics, etc... A truly indispensable tool for serious study of the cello suites.

  • 2007-10-01 00:00:00.0 Best Edition of Bach Suites!

This is a must have for all serious students of the Bach Suites. It comes with 5 of the earliest available manuscripts/editions of the suites. Many of the published editions disagree on various details of the suites (even notes!). You can consult the originals for yourself and make your...

own decisions. It also comes with a performance edition without bowings or dynamics so you/your teacher can personalize them without having to write over the editor's markings.
