The 24 Preludes by Shostakovich is fun and a mix of complicated and easy to play and practice on a near daily or daily basis!

  • January 16, 2017 cool!

I ordered this book because I had never played any of Shosty's piano pieces and these have been great to read through. More people should play them!

  • November 27, 2016 These are fabulous!

Hi, everyone!A dear and erudite (yet sporadically bordering on a tad pretentious, ah muss say) friend of mine, Neil B. T___ turned me on to these marvelous and oft jewel-like miniature tsunami. How i love them and him. Such ceaselessly, unendingly unearthable pleasures to tempt the tootsies, avec...

myriad turns and twists within practically nearly every measure. While it was the jocularly biting March of #16 (with that naturalized, crazy 'wrong' note at the song's climax that just gets me every time i try to play it!) that first 'got' me-and got me hooked real' bad- i have grown to love and, dare i venture to say cherish, nearly all of them, with the sorry exception of that very first one in C, which i find to be drab and plebian. It is just not pianistic! However, the grace-laced and sui generis soviet sarcasm of the following (in descending order of my preference) more than make up for that small loss: 8, 6, 2, 15, 24, 3, 20, 21(,) and 14. Thank you so much, Mr. Dmitri Shostakovich!

  • October 17, 2011 A wonderful gem!

These are truly a wonderful gem! However, would require a fairy technically secure technique to bring these underrated masterpieces to justice...
