CHASING CARS (Snow Patrol) - GUITAR QUARTET/large ensemble
For classical or acoustic guitars
Derek Hasted writes "This is a very accessible arrangement of Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars”.
I’ve used some arranging tricks, including sub-harmonics (a way to generate deep bass for minimal effort) to make a big wall of sound that a mixed ability ensemble (early intermediate to intermediate) can realize easily.
The dynamics on the score marry up with the original official video, building in the choruses. If you play in a large ensemble, make sure to use the full dynamic range of your guitar so that collectively, the piece builds and decays the most it can.
I have used some straightforward artificial harmonics to make the journey up to the higher positions much easier and more reliable to achieve.
There is an optional part for a bass guitar - the added depth and sustain make this piece yet more sublime, but with just guitars, this will be a bigger sound than you might expect.
I hope you enjoy playing this piece!"
This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at www.derek-hasted.co.uk/smp lists all his arrangements by title and by "number of instruments", with links to soundclips and sample score.
