By ABBA. By Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. Arranged by Derek Hasted. This edition: audio, pdf. Pop. Score and Parts. 27 pages. Derek Hasted #1119422. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1546943).

CHIQUITITA - Great concert piece for 4 GUITARS or larger ensemble
For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.

Derek Hasted writes "This is a concert crowd-pleaser perfect for intermediate (or advanced intermediate) guitarists!

One reason ABBA songs are so memorable isn’t the strong melody line, it’s all the other clever harmonies and textures that lurk just under the surface to make a crafted masterpiece.

My arrangement uses guitar-friendly shapes to capture the song and the countermelodies that make the original such a great listen. Arranging this piece in D rather than A means we can use the guitars’ range to full effect, and whether you have 4 guitars or 40, this will make a big, big sound.

I’ve resisted the temptation to put dynamics on the score - please make the performance “yours”. Just ensure that Guitar 2 (the countermelody) isn’t as loud as Guitar 1 (the tune), as Guitar 2 rises above Guitar 1 here and there, just like the original.

If you use paper and music stands (rather than a tablet), the Guitar 3 needs some sticky tape to join all the pages together, so that you can have pages 1&2 on show, then (during the almost-empty bar at the end of page 2), turn the page to reveal pages 3&4. And again, during the almost empty bar, turn the page to reveal page 5. All the other parts will fit a normal music stand with no page turns, but again some sticky tape to make a 3-page spread will mean that there’s no risk of a sheet being insecure.

I hope you enjoy performing this as much as the audience will enjoy hearing it!"

This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts.
