Mozart:12 Horn Duets K.487/496a (Nos.1 to 12) (both in original keys and transposed to horns in F) - by Ray Thompson Brass Duet - Digital Sheet Music
By Ray ThompsonMozart wrote his "Zwölf Duos für zwei Hörner" ( 12 Duets for horn duet ) in or around 1786.They were written for natural horn in Eb and were probably composed for players within the Jacquin family circle of friends, one of whom was virtuoso hornist Joseph Leutgeb (1732-1811), whom Mozart knew in Salzburg. Leutgeb was the inspiration for Mozart's horn concertos. The first horn part in some of the duos is virtuosic as it goes up to a " high G" a full octave above the top space of the treble clef!!This is beyond the range of many players so I have transposed all of the duos into 3 keys: Eb (as in the original) C and Bb basso.I have also done parts in F either as separate parts, (hn1 and hn 2) or both on the same part as a duet.I have also done copies of the original natural horn parts as separate parts, (hn1 and hn 2) or both on the same part as a duet. Finally the score shows all 4 parts hn1/2 in F and hn 1/2 natural hornUsing the original parts, you can either try to play them all in Eb if you are a virtuoso!!!, or play them in Eb, C or Bb basso, and then check them out by playing form the horn in F parts. This is the complete 12 duos.

They were written for natural horn in Eb and were probably composed for players within the Jacquin family circle of friends, one of whom was virtuoso hornist Joseph Leutgeb (1732-1811), whom Mozart knew in Salzburg. Leutgeb was the inspiration for Mozart's horn concertos.
The first horn part in some of the duos is virtuosic as it goes up to a " high G" a full octave above the top space of the treble clef!!
This is beyond the range of many players so I have transposed all of the duos into 3 keys:
Eb (as in the original) C and Bb basso.
I have also done parts in F either as separate parts, (hn1 and hn 2) or both on the same part as a duet.
Finally the score shows all 4 parts hn1/2 in F and hn 1/2 natural horn
Using the original parts, you can either try to play them all in Eb if you are a virtuoso!!!, or play them in Eb, C or Bb basso, and then check them out by playing form the horn in F parts.
This is the complete 12 duos.
