Published by Matthew Naughtin (A0.852932).When Herman Hupfeld wrote "As Time Goes By" for the 1931 Broadway musical Everybody's Welcome, it was a modest success, but nothing spectacular. Then the 1942 film Casablanca came along in which it was sung by Sam (portrayed by Dooley Wilson) and was heard throughout the film as a kind of leitmotif. RCA Victor quickly reissued a 1931 recording by Rudy Vallée which became a number one hit eleven years after it was originally released and the song became the signature tune of Warner Bros. The American Film Institute has listed "As Time Goes By" as No. 2 among the top 100 movie songs (behind "Over the Rainbow") and it continues to be used in films and TV series to evoke a wistful mood of nostalgia. This elegant, expressive arrangement for String Orchestra will evoke memories of Bogart and Bergman and the days when romance ruled the movies. The file includes the full score and all five parts.
