By Gergely Devich and Maria Kovalszki. By Camille Saint-Saens, Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn, Gabriel Faure, Robert Schumann, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Zoltan Kodaly. Classical. CD. Published by Hungaroton (NX.HCD32756).

The present CD comprises a selection from the popular miniatures of romantic cello literature. However, the concept of romanticism has been slightly extended to also include into this imaginary club Kodaly's and Rachmaninov's lyrical pieces. It is interesting to note that the order of the pieces constitutes a kind of "bridge- form". Schumann's works (Adagio und Allegro, Op. 70 as well as Fantasiestucke, Op. 73) represent the opening and concluding items. Proceeding inwards pieces by Faure can be heard (Elegie, Op. 24, then in succession Papillons and Apres une reve, Op. 7 No. 1). At the rising and falling arch of the bridge-form a work each by Kodaly can be found: Romance lyrique and the famous Adagio. The middle section is occupied by Mendelssohn's Song without word Op. 109 No. 4, Saint-Saens's Allegro appassionato, Op. 43, and Rahmanyinov's popular Vocalise (arranged by Leonard Rose, Op. 34. No. 14).
