Published by Sonic Crossroads (S0.43559).Hasan Ferit Alnar (1906-1972) was an important figure in Turkish music as a composer and musician who traversed both Ottoman and Western classical worlds. This set of five dances are modeled on specific Turkish dances that also demonstrate the multi-ethnic origins and contexts for many of the dances. The movement titles are I. Köçek Havasi, II. Zeybek Havasi, III. Laz Havasi, IV. Çiftetelli, V. Sirto. ('Havasi' literally means 'air', or generally 'melody'.) This set of pieces is considerably more challenging than Alnar's Eight Piano Pieces, and is comparable to the Images cycles of Debussy or Tombeau de Couperin by Ravel. 27 pages. Advanced. .
