O Day of Radiant Gladness by James Gilbert Organ Solo - Digital Sheet Music

By James Gilbert

For Solo Organ. A lively fughetta-style arrangement of the hymn tune ES FLOG EIN KLEINS WALDVOGELEIN, based on the German folk melody associated with this beloved hymn. Contrapuntal writing and energetic movement give this setting a bright and elegant classical character. For the reviewer who thought the piece has awkward voice leading, transitions and harmonic progressions, thanks for the tip. In the future I'll try not to copy the harmonic progressions, voice leading or difficulty of J.S. Bach, Telemann, Scarlatti or Vivaldi and come up with my own voice leading, transitions and harmonic progressions. As with much of my music, this was written for a specific situation that required it to be the way it is. Although people have not commented here, I have received favorable feedback about this piece from actual performers of the piece.

Serviceable

The piece is not well written: awkward voice leading, transitions, and harmonic progressions actually make it more difficult than it looks, or should be.
