  • September 20, 2005 Beautiful, but difficult to read . . .

This is a beautiful book. It is really a facsimile of the original published edition. The art in the book is almost worth the price alone, and one enjoys very much seeing the book the way Parisians would have seen it in about 1925 when it was first published. One...

problem. The book has facsimiles of Satie's own penned scores. It is not set type, it is really manuscript. And I suspect the size has been reduced. I do have difficulty playing the material, based entirely on the visibility of the score. If in fact, the pages have been reduced from the original, it may explain why it is so difficult to read. Satie writes in a sharp, for example. Sometimes it is hard to determine which note of the adjacent chord is being sharped. But it's a lovely book and I am not sorry I bought it.
