Following on from Vol 1 (Barber, Berg, Hartmann, Stravinsky and Walton) released in 2014, Gil adds to the series with two pillars of the concerto repertoire - Prokofiev and Bartok's Second Violin Concertos, both recorded in the studio. For the Bartok Gil chose to team with conductor Stephane Deneve with whom he has collaborated the Bartok on numerous occasions - most recently in Los Angeles where the Los Angeles Times observed 'a sense of playfulness now in Shaham's Bartok ... shedding just the right bit of polished sheen in his tone at appropriate moments... Deneve poking around the score revealing all kinds of strange details that the Philharmonic executed with relish, this team brought out the weirdness of this music that often gets buried nowadays underneath super-slick virtuosity.' This exciting young and dynamic NY based group is one of Gil's favourite ensembles, and this is a musical collaboration to be cherished.
