to five hours of decent light from a set of four cells is possible (alkalines or recently-charged 2500 mAh NiMH rechargeables), although the light does dim quite rapidly beyond that time. One critical point -- of the two lights we ordered, one initially failed to work because of a mechanically faulty on/off switch. I fixed this myself rather than send the entire light back across the Atlantic, but I would not recommend anyone without experience of electrical equipment repairs and appropriate tools to invalidate their warranty in that way. I may just have been unlucky, but I would have expected better testing and quality control for a device at this price.

An excellent piece of kit - stronger, brighter and with a wider beam than its predecessor.
