A colorful musical tapestry of nationalistic themes and battle scenes, performances of the "1812"--with cannons thundering and bells pealing--have remained an electrifying outdoor event at patriotic concerts worldwide. Unabridged republication of the work originally published by Ernst Eulenburg, Leipzig. Instrumentation. [6 1/8 x 8 1/2, 96.pp].

I have long looked for an affordable score to Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture," and this proved to be just that. The score is notated just as Tchaikovsky originally penned it (trumpets are Pistons; bassoons are fagotti; etc) with the translations given at the beginning of the score. Some performance notes...

concerning the clangorous bell parts are given, and of course, the cannon parts are notated in conventional notation.

All I had to do was look at the percussion part in the instrumentation, and see "cannon," and I was hooked! It's very revealing, and a lot of fun, to have the opportunity to analyze the full score to this massive work.
