Composed by Ignacio Cervantes. Arranged by David Diaz. Romantic Period,World,Latin. Score. 25 pages. Published by David Diaz (S0.12095).

Ignacio Cervantes (1847-1905), was a Cuban pianist and composer. He studied with celebrated American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk and also at the Paris Conservatory where he was awarded first prize in composition (1866) and in harmony (1867). He toured the United States and Mexico and was one of the pioneers in forming the Cuban musical identity. One of his most popular works, Cuban Dances (Danzas Cubanas) originally composed for piano in 1899, employs the distinct Cuban rhythms of the clave. Cervantes was influential on other Latin-American nationalist composers, especially 20th century Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona. The 12 Cuban Dances feature Cervantes' more elaborate and significant works of his original 41 Danzas Cubanas. This arrangement captures the distinct colors of the flute and clarinet to bring to life the melodious and rhythmic spirit of Cervantes music. The music parts are scored for key of Bb and A clarinet respectively.
