Composed by Johannes Brahms. Arranged by Craig Garner. Christian,Romantic Period,Sacred. Score and parts. 36 pages. Dorm 40 Music #3037635. Published by Dorm 40 Music (A0.740267).

This arrangement is part of the Chicago Gargoyle Brass & Organ Ensemble Signature Series.

Brahms said he wanted to write a Requiem to comfort the living, not for the souls of the dead. This arrangement is of the first movement, which is based on one of the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount: Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted. The movement begins hushed and solemn, but slowly transforms its somber mood into music which conveys a sense of peace and comfort. This arrangement is suitable for any church service or concert. Includes alternate C trumpet parts and an optional timpani part. Performance time, 9:00. Published by Dorm 40 Music, www.dorm40music.com.
