The Times called this production of Britten's The Rape of Lucretia "...possibly the most truthful you're likely to see in some time." The Rape of Lucretia was composed by Benjamin Britten in 1946. Written for the opera singer Kathleen Ferrier, who performed the title role at the premiere, the work was the first to which Britten attached the title of "chamber opera." "Piercingly intelligent, immaculately realized... Here is music drama of the very highest power and quality." (The Daily Telegraph).
