This is a beautiful early-baroque sonata by the Italian composer Antonio Bertali. The 'alto' part is often played by a trombone, but it is also historically correct to play it on another instrument with the same range, like a viola da gamba. All parts are very virtuosic, and all have their own solo part within the piece. This edition is taken from the manuscript in the Düben collection. There is also a version available on this website with original clefs.
