Artis Calambria was commissioned and premiered in August 2011 by the Band of Vale de Cambra (Portugal), conducted by Gil Magalhaes, on the occasion of its centennial. The work took as its starting point the poem of the poet Ferreira de Castro, a native of Vale de Cambra, about the city. The whole structure of the work was designed from the poem. Vale de Cambra is also known for its metal industry. The choice of some of the percussion instruments used in the work also had this aspect into account. 'On moonlight nights, when the great gold bubble appears on the hill of the mountains, the valley is filled with magic, a charm that hangs from the distant heights the waters of the river whispering Caima. The morning is a miracle, every day there is a miracle of light upon the earth when the sun rises in Vale de Cambra'.
