Composed by Amanda McCullough. Contemporary. Score and parts. 34 pages. Music for a Bluesy Apocolypse #2012669. Published by Music for a Bluesy Apocolypse (A0.987097).

Duration: 4'40" Dance of the Fireflies was originally written for a centennial celebration of the Rite of Spring. The first movement, In the Din of Twilight, is a violent, savage dance that represents the fireflies as sparks arising from the darkness, while also alluding to the opening bassoon solo from the Rite. The second movement, Of Will-O’-the-Wisps, which is slower and mysterious, compares fireflies to Will-O’-the-Wisps and elaborates upon a prominent theme in the first movement. The third movement, Tiny Lanterns, the fireflies become like tiny lanterns as they are slowly "snuffed out" one by one.
