With new insights into Franz Schubert's stays, especially in Styria and Lower Austria, the publication offers a wealth of interesting details for Schubert researchers and all those interested in the composer's biographical life and his circle of friends. The text is accompanied by extensive photographic material, some of which has never been published before. This volume is part of a comprehensive Schubert topography that takes you on a journey to the places where the great composer was active. This publication takes a closer look at Schubert sites in Graz, Styria, Lower Austria and Burgenland. Open questions in Schubert research are answered for the first time, for example the biography of Joseph Schweighofer and Franz Haring in Graz in the Schubert context. The »Graz chapter« was already published in a special volume in summer 2022 - here again with a few revisions. The question as to the »where« letß »new« Schubert places emerge. Johann Baptist Jengers description of his journey with Schubert through Styria and Lower Austria forms the second thematic focus. Schubert had many ties to the »Land unter der Enns« Niederösterreich - an opportunity to focus on two of Schubert's closest friends: Franz v. Schober and Leopold Kupelwieser. The town of Atzenbrugg in Lower Austria, with its castle and the Aumühle estate, which is important for the Schubert circle, is already the subject of the first volume of the series (ST1) and is only mentioned in this volume. Styria and Lower Austria share the present volume in roughly equal parts, but today's Burgenland is also involved to some extent. The surviving account of Schubert's last excursion to Eisenstadt (then Hungary) shortly before his early death is particularly moving. »News« is not declared as such, but flows into the text. It is similar with corrections to errors that have been discovered in the previous state of knowledge. These are usually made tacitly, comprehensibly via the source references. The way out of the dichotomy between rumor and fact, which Schubert researcher Otto Erich Deutsch found at the beginning of the 20th century through his method of documentary biography, was groundbreaking. Based on Deutsch, Rudolf Klein published his »Schubert-Stätten« in 1972 in the second half of the 20th century. In 1997, the Schubert anniversary year, a new generation of researchers came up with very remarkable results. Walburga Litschauer, Rita Steblin, Michael Lorenz and Gerrit Waidelich should be mentioned here as representatives of many others. I am indebted to all of them, because without their preliminary work and help I would not have achieved my results.
