Wise Choices [Piano Solo] Piano Method - Digital Sheet Music

Wise Choices is a prelude for piano with a minimalist aesthetic and an optimistic, grateful, and serene character. Two simultaneous processes can be heard: a smooth flow of notes (in eighth notes) as a backdrop, and a slower melodic element in the foreground (in half notes). This musical discourse is internally articulated in eight sections, like eight lines of a poem.

The sonority of this prelude thrives on the use of the pedal and resonances, which add a third dimension to the sound.

The score includes a quote attributed to Plato that contextualizes the title: "A good decision is based on knowledge, not on numbers." This idea is particularly provocative in our time, when the concepts of big data and faith in statistics as an omnipresent and unappealable benchmark begin to undermine human responsibility in decision-making.

Wise Choices was composed in Bremen-Vegesack (Germany) on 14 May 2024 (although, as usual, there were subsequent improvements and refinements). Its approximate duration is 3:30.

This piece is dedicated to the music critic Juan Carlos Tellea, fraternally.

Trivia: I finally had the pleasure of writing a piece in 4/2 time, which in this case is fully justified.
