This cycle features ten songs, each in a different language from around the world. The theme surrounds the water cycle in nature and its continuous journey through the skies, earth, and sea. There is a seven-note motif that is heard throughout the cycle (heard in measure 9 of the euphonium solo). The title comes from a Sufi concert that just as a drop of water contains the essence of the entire ocean, inside every human being is the essence of all humanity.“Waloyo Yamoni” translates to “We Overcome the Wind” from Lango, a language spoken in the Northern Region of Uganda. This song is about rain as the water completes its journey. The original text comes from an East African rainmaking prayer. The song was written for a full orchestra with choir and features several soloists and percussion instruments. This arrangement takes the original and rescores it for a modern-day Wind Ensemble. The key is adjusted to better fit a band’s performance. It features several percussion instruments from around the world. The Udu drum is featured prominently in the middle and ending sections of this. Christopher Tin suggests one with an extra skin head in his original orchestration. It is also recommended that it be mic’d. If an udu is not available, it can be substituted with a talking drum. The singing bowls may be substituted with hitting individual bells on a bell tree.Instrumentation:PiccoloFlute 1Flute 2Oboe 1Oboe 2Bassoon 1Bassoon 2Clarinet in Bb 1Clarinet in Bb 2Clarinet in Bb 3Bass ClarinetContralto ClarinetContrabass ClarinetSoprano & Alto Sax 1 (Soprano optional)Alto Sax 2Tenor SaxBaritone SaxTrumpet in Bb 1Trumpet in Bb 2Trumpet in Bb 3Horn in F 1Horn in F 2Horn in F 3Horn in F 4Trombone 1Trombone 2Bass TromboneEuphonium (B.C.)Euphonium (T.C.)TubaDouble BassTimpaniPercussion 1: Chimes, Finger Cym, Bells, XyloPercussion 2: Bass Drum & Singing BowlsPercussion 3: Sus & Crash Cym, Whip, MarimbaPercussion 4: Tam-Tam, Wind Ch, Marimba, XyloPercussion 5: Udu, Marimba, XyloPiano
