Composed by Barnaby Smith. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 7 pages. Barnaby J Smith #3066089. Published by Barnaby J Smith (A0.900194).

One definition of ‘vicissitude’ is the alternation between opposite or contrasting things. Inspired by the minimalist works of Phillip Glass and Arvo Pärt, this piece features a repeated pair of chords in the middle of the keyboard. Low octaves pose a harmonic question, each time being answered by a tintinnabulous phrase in octaves in the high register. The performer has to swap which hand plays the central chord in order to be able to play the outer parts effectively.

Playing Level: Intermediate
