This piece came about as a Christmas gift for Valentin, the composers’ youngest son. Valentin—more commonly Valentine in English—is also the patron saint of lovers. He is said to have been a poor priest who healed a blind girl, and gave flowers from his garden to those who sought help and comfort. Saint Valentine’s day has been celebrated in February each year since the 14th century as a day devoted to love. This work is written in the style of a chorale and has a light touch of romance!

Dit werk is ontstaan als kerstgeschenk voor Valentin, de jongste zoon van de componist. Valentin in het Nederlands beter bekend als Valentijn is de patroonheilige van geliefden. Naar verluidt was hij een arme priester die een meisje van haar blindheid genas. Hij gaf bloemen uit zijn tuin aan mensen die hulp en troost nodig hadden. De feestdag van Sint-Valentijn wordt al sinds de 14e eeuw gevierd en staat bekend als de meest romantische dag van het jaar. Valentin’s Chorale is geschreven in de stijl van een koraal en heeft een licht romantische toets!

Das Werk entstand als Weihnachtsgeschenk für Valentin, den jüngsten Sohn des Komponisten. Valentin ist aber auch der Patron der Liebenden. Er soll der Überlieferung nach ein armer Priester gewesen sein, der ein blindes Mädchen geheilt hat. Hilfe und Trost Suchenden schenkte er Blumen aus seinem Garten. Das Fest des heiligen Valentinus wurde erstmals im 14. Jahrhundert gefeiert und gilt heute als ein romantischer Tag für Liebespaare. Dieses Werk ist im Stil eines Chorals komponiert und hat leichte Anklänge an eine Romanze!

La composition était l’origine un cadeau de Noël pour Valentin, le fils cadet du compositeur. Valentin, est aussi le saint patron des amoureux. Il aurait été un pauvre prêtre connu pour sa guérison d’une fille aveugle et aurait offert des fleurs de son jardin ceux nécessitant de l’aide et du réconfort. Le jour de la Saint-Valentin est célébré depuis le XIVe siècle, reconnu surtout comme une célébration annuelle du jour le plus romantique. Cette œuvre est en style de choral, avec une touche de romance !
