In a rena d'arghjentu chì li faci curona
E chì u mari turchinu veni à carizzà
Stracquatu pà l'eternu senza cantu nè sona
Un pinu maestosu finisci di mirzà!
Eiu l'aghju cunnisciutu in a me zitiddina
Quandu sgueltru,a mani, andaia à caccighjà
Chì tandu à a bulama li piacia à calà...
Po quantu volti in Pasqua à nosciu usu fideli
Sutt'à a so ombra zippa s'andaia à fistighjà
Ni stindia par no' i so braccia in'u celi
M'hà vistu d'istatina circà a so friscura
Di vedalu à so paru ben fiera ni sarà!
Chì fieru è maestosu ni mirava a Sardegna
This poem is a tribute to the Pine of Palombaggia, a majestic tree on the Palombaggia beach in Corsica, which was most likely destroyed by a fire caused by humans.
The poet nostalgically recalls his childhood, when this pine provided shade and coolness, serving as a symbol of nature and a witness to local traditions. He describes the beauty and significance of the tree, under which people gathered to celebrate, rest, and protect themselves from the summer heat.
However, due to the negligence or carelessness of some people, the tree was destroyed by fire. The poet mourns this loss and regrets that new visitors to the place no longer respect nature, coming only to enjoy the beauty of the location without understanding its spirit.
The poem ends with deep sorrow: the pine, once proud and protective, is now gone, and this loss leaves an emptiness in the hearts of those who knew it.
