Two Images by Joseph Turrin Flugelhorn - Sheet Music

By Joseph Turrin

Two Images was commissioned by Brian Shaw in 2005. The first Image was written for flugelhorn an instrument that I adore and love to write for. This movement is very soulful and intimate in nature. The focus is a beautiful flowing and warm sound. Movement 2 is for the trumpet and is in complete contrast to the first movement. Agility and excitement are the forces at work here. Its always a challenge for a composer to write for an unaccompanied wind or string instrument. I try to make the piece work as a complete whole not only melodically but also in its implied harmonic structure. In many ways it needs to have all the musical elements of an accompanied piece.
