Composed by Hans Zimmer. Arranged by Eric R. This edition: audio, pdf, streaming. 20th Century, Broadway, Contemporary, Film/TV, Musical/Show. Score. 13 pages. Overture & Storybook Musical Arrangements #1298382. Published by Overture & Storybook Musical Arrangements (A0.1737054).
'To Die For' from Disney's The Lion King (1994) captures the action packed Stampede sequence, as well as the segue to Mufasa's Death. With a dramatic score by Hans Zimmer, this scene begins with Simba alone in the gorge, where Scar's devious plan is about to unfold. Suspense builds as wildebeasts begin their descent in a Stampede - leaving Simba helpless and endangered. The scene ends in tragedy, as Mufasa is killed and Simba is left with guilt and despair. Musically, the sequence ends with a hymn-like eulogy, in which Hans Zimmer's personal connection the story is evident through the emotional impact of the underscore.
The score earned Zimmer an Academy Award for Best Original Score (1995). Orchestrations for The Lion King (1994) were done by Bruce Fowler and Nick Glennie-Smith.
This arrangement for solo piano is a reduction of the full orchestra, and is suited for Intermediate+ pianists. Chords are marked throughout. An additional staff is added where relevant, to indicate key instrumental parts that could not be fully condensed into the piano staves (for the performer's reference).
