Erkki Pohjola, the former conductor of the Tapiola Choir proposed Kortekangas, that he should write a small work for the choir. This resulted later in Three Fjord Sketches which Kortekangas completed in Akureyr, Iceland during a week spent there in 1994. The work is dedicated to both Erkki Pohjola and Kari Ala-Pollanen. The text is based on I Ching, the Chinese Book of Changes.
