This enchanting anthem, featuring an anonymous 15th century English poem honors Mary, the mother of Jesus, calling her the 'rose of such virtue.' Celebrating the birth of Jesus, the poem incorporates short Latin phrases within the English text to create a unique kind of poem known as the macaronic poem. Descending thirds in the melody make the anthem easy to sing for younger choristers while an optional solo provides the opportunity to challenge more experienced singers. The anthem includes a pronunciation guide and translation of the Latin phrases along with a brief history of the old English poem. Sound file: ms. 1-16, 1 second silence, ms. 36-end Voicing: Unison/two part with piano Composer: Pat Messick Text Author: Anonymous, 15th century.
