For years this choral piece was one of the mainstays of the Tennebrae/Good Friday service at Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene. Blessed–as we were–to have a thriving orchestra program, I constantly looked for ways to allow more instrumentalists to accompany the choir. This particular accompaniment was for a small ensemble: flute, clarinet, and strings. Again let me remind you that the use of just one of these instruments can be treated as an obbligato and will enhance the presentation.
