The Great American Songbook – The Singers Music and Lyrics for 100 Standards from the Golden Age of American Song by Various Piano, Vocal, Guitar - Sheet Music

By Various

Crooners, wailers, shouters, balladeers – some of our greatest pop vocalists have poured their hearts and souls into the musical gems of the Great American Songbook. They sang in nightclubs and concert halls, on television and in films, and left us a legacy of recordings still in play today. Their interpretations entertained us, moved us to tears, and wove lyrics and music into the fabric of our lives, making us see ourselves in these quintessentially American songs. This folio features 100 of these classics by Louis Armstrong (Hello Dolly • What a Wonderful World), Tony Bennett (I Left My Heart in San Francisco), Rosemary Clooney (Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep), Nat “King” Cole (Route 66), Bing Crosby (True Love), Doris Day (Bewitched), Ella Fitzgerald (How High the Moon), Judy Garland (Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody), Dean Martin (Everybody Loves Somebody), Frank Sinatra (Young at Heart), Barbra Streisand (People), Mel Tormé (Heart and Soul), and many, many more.

    Excellent Resource for Intermediate Students

This Hal Leonard collection is a fantastic resource for my intermediate students. The arrangements are thoughtfully presented and accessible, making it great for teaching sight-reading and rhythm within the classic American standards. The engraving quality is clear, and the overall layout is very student-friendly despite the volume's size. A definite asset for building a versatile repertoire.

Solid Gig Book with Standard Arrangements

A reliable addition to any gigging musician's library. The collection of 100 standards from various iconic singers means you're covered for most requests. Chord symbols are clearly indicated, allowing for quick and accurate play. The arrangements are standard and effective. My only note is that the large binding can be a bit stiff on a music stand, but the content makes it a worthy trade-off.

    Invaluable for Singers and Accompanists

This Songbook is an invaluable tool for both vocal coaches and collaborative pianists. The piano accompaniments are well-crafted and supportive, often doubling the melody effectively for ease of learning. With 100 standards from diverse artists of the Golden Age, the vocal ranges are varied and accommodating. It’s an essential volume for teaching, practicing, and performing classic vocal repertoire.

    Great American Songbook

    1. I did not know the cost of shipping until I had already agreed to buy this book. The cost was massive. I will never buy another hard cover book from Sheet Music Plus again, only downloadable music. 2. The book is massive, in fact, so much so, that it won’t stay opened properly at the piano. I then had to take it to another shop to get the back cut off and make it spiral bound. This was another $10. 3. I have only begun to read through some of the music. Some arrangements are poorly done, in fact with wrong chord choices.
