The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) by Mel Torme Flute Solo - Digital Sheet Music
By Mel Torme"The Christmas Song"—often subtitled "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" and originally "Merry Christmas to You"—was written in 1945 by Robert Wells and Mel Tormé. The Nat King Cole Trio first recorded it in June 1946.At Cole’s insistence, and despite resistance from Capitol Records, the song was re-recorded that August with a small string section. This rendition became a major success on both the pop and R&B charts. Cole went on to record the song again in 1953 with a full orchestra arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle, and once more in 1961 in a stereophonic version arranged by Ralph Carmichael. The 1961 recording is widely considered the definitive version. The original 1946 release was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1974, and in 2022, the Library of Congress selected Cole’s 1961 recording for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry, recognizing its cultural, historical, and artistic significance. This arrangement is for flute and piano
