By Leslie Bricusse

“The Candy Man”

“The Candy Man” is a show tune written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley for the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. It later became a huge pop hit and signature song for singer Sammy Davis Jr. when he recorded it in 1972. The song was written specifically for the 1971 film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and does not appear in the original book.Sammy Davis Jr. recorded “The Candy Man” soon after the film’s release. His version reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1972, staying there for three weeks, and also topped the adult contemporary chart. It became his only number‑one pop hit and one of his best‑known songs, eventually giving him the nickname “The Candy Man.”Here is a great flute duet version of this classic tune. A score and individual parts are included.Click here for more of my flute duets
