For stretching your student's note reading skills in a technically "friendly" recital piece, you'll like this quiet night song, set in C Major, 4/4 time, and using a wider-than-usual amount of the keyboard. There is repetition, pedaling, and the dynamics are soft, with opportunities for expression, and even a glissando at the end.
