Charles Albert Tindley is known by many as the "Grandfather of Gospel Music," since it was Tindley who invented the style a generation before Thomas Dorsey, who heard Tindley's hymns at a National Baptist Convention meeting. And, although Dorsey came to be know as the "Father of Gospel Music,” he faithfully acknowledged his debt to Tindley.
